Preston Warner Welsh, 98 of Newburg Maryland, passed away on Saturday February 17th in his home in Newburg Maryland.
He was born on July 11, 1925, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, and friend to many.
Preston was known for his countless stories of his life as a Marine in WWII where he served in the Pacific theatre and at Camp Lejeune during the Korean conflict. He also loved to share stories of his days as a NASCAR driver and his adventures with friends and family. He worked as a gifted mechanic for Montgomery County schools and raised his family in Kensington & Chevy Chase Maryland before retiring to his beloved home on the Wicomico River in Southern Maryland.
Preston was preceded in death by his wife Gloria, son Jerry, and brothers Joe and Robert. Preston is survived by his daughters Jill Welsh, Jane Welsh, Judy Welsh (Gerry Cable), Joey Welsh, Mary Cohen (Lee Williams) and his sons Jack Welsh, Jim Welsh (Paula), Josh Welsh (Tracy) and Joe Welsh (Elizabeth). He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Preston’s favorite pastime was people; he cherished spending time with his friends and his wonderful River family sharing stories over a beer & cigar. As far as Preston was concerned, it did not get any better than that. He lived 98 long years without a cup of coffee, but as Preston often said, “Have a great time but don’t over rev your engine.”
A memorial mass will be held at Holy Ghost Church on March 16th at 11:00am 15848 Rock Point Rd, Newburg, MD followed by a celebration of life at Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department
