Robert Lee Dofflemyer, 85, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Robert, known to all as Bob, was born in Hagerstown, MD, on October 29, 1938, to the late Jennings and Freda Dofflemyer. He is also predeceased by his wife, Betty Dofflemyer, his brother, William “Semore” Dofflemyer, and his granddaughter, Rebecca Dofflemyer.
Bob is survived by his son, Norman “Bill” Dofflemyer; and his daughters, Brenda Dofflemyer, Bernadine Whalen, Betty Dofflemyer, and Bobbie Ferrari. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Bob spent his career as a Service Technician for National Cash Register, but his passion was being a volunteer firefighter. He started his firefighting career at the age of 16 in Hagerstown, followed by District Heights, and then concluded by serving in Waldorf from 1965 until 2024. During his tenure with Waldorf, Bob served in a number of positions to include Assistant Fire Chief, Board of Director Chairman, and President. Bob was also a teacher at heart: he served as an instructor for the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, and he loved coaching children on fundamental skills in baseball and football.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 9:30 AM until his funeral service at 11:30 AM at the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department Co. 3 (3245 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD 20602). Interment to follow at the Trinity Memorial Gardens (3221 Mattawoman Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department (3245 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD 20602) or the First Baptist Church of St. Charles (136 Stoddert Avenue, Waldorf, MD 20602).
