Nancy L. Adams, 76, Hampton, VA

Nancy L. Adams passed away early on March 17, 2015 at her home in Hampton, VA.  She was born in 1938 in Washington, D.C.  Nancy was the mother of 12 children, grandmother of 41 children, great-grandmother of 56 children and great-great grandmother of one child.  Nancy is preceded in death by many loved ones including her husband of 54 years, Ralph J. Adams.  Nancy is survived by six brothers and sisters, 10 children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She touched numerous lives with her generosity and caring nature and will be missed by many. 

Nancy was very proud of all of her children and loved being surrounded by babies, in fact, the more children the better.   She would more often than not go out of her way to feed, clothe, and tend to all who crossed her path, putting the needs of others before herself.

Nancy spent the better part of her marriage to Ralph helping run several locksmith businesses including Adams Safe & Lock and Adams Lock & Key in MD and VA.  She spent her time managing employees, dispatching calls, and on many occasions even going out on calls with him.  Through the years she also ran a night club and several restaurants. In her late 60's she went back to school and obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant license and devoted most of her time to servicing the elderly in nursing homes as well as in home care, even working until little over a month before her passing.

When she wasn’t working, which wasn't often, she enjoyed spending all her time with her family throwing lavish parties and entertaining from old friends to her small grandchildren.  Nancy and Ralph enjoyed being near the water and when Ralph wasn’t fishing they enjoyed spending time off the coast of Norfolk, VA on their boat with as many family members that would fit.  Nancy also loved to cook. She would prepare huge spreads of food for her family, friends, neighbors, and sometimes strangers, and she enjoyed every second of it. 

Services for Nancy L. Adams will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Mary’s Ave., LaPlata, MD with a viewing from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm followed by a formal service at 5:00 pm.
