William "Bill" Lewis Geary

April 15, 1922 ~ April 1, 2018 (age 95)

William “Bill” Lewis Geary, 95 of LaPlata, MD died of old age on April 1, 2018 at the Charlotte Hall Veteran’s Home.

Bill was born on April 15, 1922 in Cumberland, MD and lived in Annapolis, MD until he retired in 1982.  He then moved to Cobb Island, MD for 28 years.  Bill was a devoted husband and was happily married for 67 years to Catherine M. Geary, who preceded in him death on December 14, 2013.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Geary and sister, Mary Konespake.  Bill is survived by daughters, Dorothy Womble (Richard) and Nancy Lowman (Ray); sister, Betty Zotos; grandsons, Brian Womble and Keith Womble; and six great-grandchildren.

Bill was a loving father and having lived most of his life on the water, he enjoyed fishing, crabbing and boating.  He joined the Army in 1942 and spent 33 months overseas, serving in North Africa, Rome, Italy and Corisa.  Bill received many awards, such as the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Ribbon, the European Africa Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.  After coming out of the Army, Bill served a four years apprenticeship for the Sheet Metal Workers International and was a member with them for over 70 years.  He worked 32 years as Shop Foreman for Sheet Metal Workers Local 100.  Bill was also an active member of the VFW Post 10081 and held many offices.  He was most proud of serving as Past All-State Post Commander.  Bill was truly an honorable man and wore his white hat with pride. 

A Visitation will be held from 5PM to 8PM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, PA on Monday, April 16, 2018.  A Funeral Service will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, PA (211 St. Mary’s Ave., LaPlata, MD); Interment to follow at the MD Veteran’s Cemetery (11301 Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD).  In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, 29449 Charlotte Hall Rd.
