Albert Scheungrab, Jr. Obituary

Albert “Al” Carl Scheungrab, Jr., 76, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on November 11, 2022, after an extended illness.

Al was born on September 25, 1946, to Beatrice and Albert Scheungrab in Waldorf, MD. After graduating from La Plata High School in 1965, Al went on to serve as a Helicopter Mechanic for the United States Army in Vietnam. After his service, Al worked his entire career at C & P Telephone Company, which later became Bell Atlantic, and eventually Verizon.

Al married Juanita “Nita” Morey, of Washington, DC, on August 30, 1990, and settled in Mechanicsville, MD. They spent the next thirty-one years by each other’s side, enjoying time with their family, traveling, and were active members of their church.

After retirement, Al pursued creative endeavors, including photography. He graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in 2003, completing coursework in both film and digital photography. Al started his own business, ACS Photography, providing portrait and wedding photography services in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. He belonged to a local camera club, and helped with judging the photography submissions at the Saint Mary’s County Fair. He loved going on photography outings with friends, studying his Bible, church activities, Sunday brunch with friends, time with his family, and countless adventures with his wife Nita.

Al was preceded in death by his wife Nita; his parents, Beatrice and Albert; and his brother William. He is survived by his daughter Christina Scheungrab, of Riddle, OR; his stepchildren and their spouses, Robert Hartsell and Anthony Damiao, of Philadelphia, PA; Linda and Larry Vera, of Keswick, VA; Douglas and Lucia Morey, of La Plata, MD; Robin and Deborah Morey, of Decatur, GA; and granddaughter and husband Allison and Jeremy Snyder, of La Plata, MD. He is also survived by his sisters, Marie Clark, of Baltimore, MD, and Beatrice Daly, of Bradenton, FL.
