Alice C. Bryant 92 of Newburg, MD passed away on Saturday November 11, 2023 at her home.
Alice was born on November 22, 1930 in Dentsville, MD to the late Carlton and Margaret Cooksey. She is also predeceased by her husband, Enoch Bryant and her sisters Dorothy Gray, Virginia Farrell and Marjorie Hancock.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Elaine “Maggie” Larrick (the late Robert), Charlotte Miller (George) and Nancy Bryant, as well as her “Grand-dog” Cody.
As a 75 year member of Christ Church Wayside, she served on the Altar Guild, worked the Church dinners and was the director of the Sunday School from 1958-1978.
Prior to the death of her husband both were very active in the VFW Post 10081 in Bel Alton where she volunteered countless hours and served as the President of the VFW Auxiliary for the 1981-1982 term.
She was a member of the Charles County Waterman’s Association where she served as the Secretary for many years.
She was very proud of being a native of Charles County and even as her memory began to fail, she was quick to tell anyone that she was “born in Charles County on a 270 acre farm with a sawmill business” and that she graduated from La Plata High School.
A quick bit of genealogy research found that not only was she a native of Charles County, but her Cooksey and Hancock ancestors had been in the County since the mid-1600’s. This enabled her to become a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Port Tobacco Chapter.
The family will receive friends on Saturday November 18, 2023 from 9:30 AM until service time at 11 AM at the Christ Church- Wayside (13050 Rock Point Rd. Newburg, MD 20664). Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Church Wayside, American Legion Post 82 Auxiliary, Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of your choice.
