Arturo "Lolo" Moncada Monteiro, 101, of the Philippines, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024, in Stratford, Connecticut. He was born on January 10, 1923.
Arturo had a distinguished career as a Physician & General Surgeon. He served as Chief of Staff at Physician's Memorial Hospital in La Plata, Maryland. Arturo was a valued member of the Philippine Medical Association and he donated his surgical knowledge and skills to the Medical Mission of Mercy (a volunteer group of doctors and nurses providing free medical services in the Philippines)
In his free time, Arturo enjoyed playing Mahjong, trying his luck at the slot machines, fishing, gardening and travelling. He found joy in these hobbies throughout his life.
Arturo worshipped at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Arturo is survived by his children Arturo "Sonny" Monteiro, Rowina Monteiro Amick (Robert) and Armando Delfin Monteiro (Aelene), six grandchildren, Marisa Anderson (Ryan), Justin Amick (Hannah), Kyle Amick (Karyn), Arturo Rodger Monteiro, Grace Monteiro, Ariana Monteiro, and six great grandchildren, Carr Anderson, Juliana Anderson, Hale Anderson, Hayes Amick, Porter Amick and Smith Amick. Arturo was preceded in death by his beloved wife and partner, Juliana Del Rosario Monteiro (Dr Rosy).
Services to honor Arturo's life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Contributions in his memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
The Arehart Echols Funeral Home in La Plata, Maryland, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements during this difficult time. Arturo will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
