Barbara Ann Cecero

Barbara Ann Miller Tutz Cecero, 86, of Waldorf, MD passed away peacefully while in her sleep on January 12, 2024.

Barbara was born on November 17, 1937 to the late Laverne E. and Helen M. Himmelreich Miller in Washington, DC. After Barbara a.k.a. "Bobbie" graduated from Anacostia High School in 1955, she attended her beloved Lucy Webb Hayes School of Nursing at Sibley Memorial Hospital, graduating as a registered nurse in 1958. She briefly worked at Sibley Hospital before transitioning to the doctor's offices of Drs. Thomas Cullen and James Boland in Hillside, MD (1958-1964) and Dr. Santiago Garza in Marlow Heights, MD (1964-1966). She and her family enjoyed life-long connections with those doctors and their families. After a break to raise children, Barbara returned to nursing as a staff nurse and chief nurse at Acacia Life Insurance in Washington, DC, Central Intelligence Agency (retired in 1994 after 21 years of federal government service), and Bowling Green Health Care Center in Bowling Green, VA. La Plata, MD locals may have known her as a cashier at True Value Hardware or medical assistant at Dr. Letchford's office. Barbara was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She raised her family in Forestville, Oxon Hill, and Temple Hills, MD and later lived in Brandywine, MD; Ruther Glen, VA; Heathsville, VA; Cobb Island, MD; La Plata, MD; and finally in Waldorf, MD. She was meticulous at keeping her house clean and organized and cherished antiques, family nestalgia, puzzle books, playing piano, her many dogs over the years, her Lucy Webb nursing alumni, and good times with family, especially vacations in Ocean City, MD. 

Barbara is predeceased by her grandson, Brian J. Stortzum, Sr. Left with her fond memory are her daughter Jean and her husband Bruce Wright; son Craig and his wife Kimberly Tutz; grandchildren Colleen Stortzum, and Sarah, Jarrett, and Julia Tutz; and great-grandchildren Savannah Bowie, Brian Stortzum, Jr., and Ceric Humm; brother James "Jimmy" E. Miller and his life-partner Susan Barnhart; and nephew Christopher and his wife Jennifer Miller.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Barbara's family on Tuesday, February 6 from 2:00-3:00 pm at Christ Church, 112 Charles St., La Plata, MD.  Visitation will be followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm. Interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery will be private at a later date.
