Betty K. Murphy

Betty K. Murphy, 71 of La Plata, MD went to be with the Lord on the afternoon of December 8, 2020. She was at home and surrounded by family.

Betty was born on September 7, 1949 in Washington, DC to the late Joseph and Gail Killen. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Katie Dorsey; brother, Joe Killen and her sister, Norma Scott.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Murphy; daughter, Molly John Heisler (Steven); brothers, William “Bill” Killen, Robert “Bobby” Killen and Sam Killen; sisters, Patricia “Pat” Ezzel, Brenda Vaccarelli and Mary Diggs, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty loved sewing, painting, and taking care of her family. She taught Bible studies and Sunday Precepts classes at The Potomac Heights Baptist Church.  Betty taught Kindergarten and First Grade for many years at PHCA, and it brought her much joy. She was a mentor, confidant, and friend to many.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, December 22nd at 3 PM at Potomac Heights Baptist Church.

Donations can be made to either Betty’s favorite organization, Samaritan’s Purse, or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
