Clarence Isaac Meiggs “Ike” of La Plata, Maryland passed Saturday, September 18th 2021, at the age of 83. After living a long and meaningful life, Ike died peacefully at his home with his beloved wife Carolyn and his children by his side.
Ike was born in Snowden, North Carolina on March 16th, 1938 to father James Hall Meiggs and mother Pearl Sears Meiggs. He was the third youngest of 12 siblings and graduated from Moyock high school in 1956.
After Ike graduated high school, he married Carolyn Beasley on November 29th, 1957. Ike and Carolyn would soon after decide to move to the Washington DC area and start their careers and later a family. Ike started an electrical apprenticeship with IBEW Local 26 and would later go on to become a master electrician. After retiring from the electrical union, Ike’s work ethic and desire to continue taking care of his family led him to continue working as an electrical inspector for Prince George’s County and later an building inspector in Charles County.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jimmy, Bob, Ralph and sisters, Luna, Peg, Dora, Dot and Edna. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, brothers, Bill and Stanley Meiggs, sister, Sandra Hooker, children, Ralph E. Meiggs and Seth K. Meiggs, his wife Lisa, and grandchildren Derek Bollino, Nathan I. Meiggs, and Mary Beth Meiggs and beloved nieces and nephews.
A service for Ike is planned for Thursday, September 30th 2021. The service will be held at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home at 211 St.Mary’s Ave, LaPlata, MD. All are invited to attend. The viewing will be held at 5:00 PM with the service following at 6:00 PM.
People wishing to honor Ike’s lifelong commitment to family and community can make donations to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, Louisa Humane Society (PO Box 1837 Louisa, VA 23093), and Hughesville Baptist Church.
