David Creason Obituary

David Walter Creason (78), of Mitchellville, Md., passed away on March 21, 2023 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. Throughout this illness he never lost his sense of humor, his love for travel, friends, and family or his zest for storytelling.

David was born and raised in Harrisburg, Pa., the oldest of eight children. His parents, Joanne and Lynn Creason, were champion golfers. Growing up he spent hours caddying and playing. He also helped his mother run the family-owned movie theaters his grandfather had built in the city.

David graduated from Penn State University with a degree in chemical engineering, working summers to earn his way as a laborer at a steel foundry and in a casino in Reno, Nev. He was recruited to work as a civilian at the Indian Head Naval Ordnance Station in Maryland. The bulk of Dave’s career was spent there. His last position was as the Director for New Business, seeking out new and different opportunities. After retiring he consulted and provided environmental training, traveling here and abroad.

He met his wife Linda Moore at the naval station and together they raised two daughters in the house they built in White Plains, Md. and lived in for 43 years. Those years were spent working, playing golf, gardening, and supporting their daughters’ educations and activities. He and Linda also traveled the world. He enjoyed writing trip reports, one of which was published in the Washington Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Mansfield. He is survived by his wife, daughters Lisa and Amy, their husbands Phil Parr and Dan Patterson, and grandchildren Mia, Ally, and Jacob Parr and Birdie and Sammy Patterson. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, John, Richard, Bob, Jim, Bill, and Elizabeth, brothers-in-law Bob Mansfield and Ken Moore, and their treasured spouses and families.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 1st from 2 to 4 pm at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home in La Plata, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to LifeStyles, Inc., 101 Catalpa Dr., Ste.103, La Plata, MD 20646 or lifestylesofmd.org.
