David C. Gardiner, 82, of Port Tobacco, MD passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2021. Born in LaPlata, MD on February 20, 1939 to the late Margaret Frere Gardiner and Hugh C. Gardiner, Jr. David was predeceased by his son, David C. Gardiner, Jr., and two sisters, Nancy Jo Gardiner and Eleanor G. Abell. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ann Owen Gardiner, daughter-in-law, Carol, his granddaughter Dr. Lauren Gardiner and his grandson, David C. Gardiner, III. He is also survived by his brother, Hugh C. Gardiner, III (Hilda), Sister Mary Martha Gardiner, IHM, Susan Larkin (Jim) and Cathy Forkum (Chuck) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
David graduated from Archbishop Neale High School, Belmont Abbey College, N.C. State and George Washington University. He completed a thirty-one-year government career with the Department of Navy and then worked for private industry for several more years. After retiring he was active in the Port Tobacco River Conservancy. He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was a past Grand Knight of the Archbishop Neale Council 2279.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home from 4 PM to 7 PM with prayers at 6:30 P.M. Funeral Mass will be November 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Ignatius Church, 8855 Chapel Point Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677.
