Donna Swanson

Donna Inez Swanson, 94, of White Plains died September 28, 2024, peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Born September 30, 1929, in Norman, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Orval Grim and the late Gladys Grim. She grew up in Cheyenne and Sayre, Oklahoma and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1950.

After living abroad from 1956 to 1959, her family settled in Maryland. She was employed for 17 years at the Office of Law, County Executive’s office in Prince George’s County. In her spare time, she was a devoted church organist, choir director, and music director until she was 90. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists, played for weekly masses, and many weddings and funerals.

Donna is preceded in death by her husband, Lennart Swanson, her son-in-law Gene Norfolk, and her grandson, Ryan Norfolk.

Donna is survived by her sister, Dorra Dee Estes, her brother O. Joseph Grim (Jerilyn), and sister Danny Lou Dailey. She is also survived by her daughter, Barbara Swanson of Washington, DC, her daughter Susan Norfolk of Hughesville, MD, her son, Douglas Swanson of Woodbridge, VA, and her daughter, Diane Swanson of Chevy Chase, MD; her grandchildren, Sarah Norfolk, Reed Norfolk (Chelsea), great granddaughter, Rhein, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 4th at 11:00 am, at St. Joseph’s Church, 4590 St Joseph’s Way, Pomfret, MD 20675. Interment to follow in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Pomfret or the Humane Society of Charles County, Maryland.
