Dorothy Hurburt Obituary

Dorothy F. Hurlburt

August 20, 1923 – October 4, 2024

Dorothy F. Hurlburt, of Port Tobacco, Maryland, was with us for an amazing 101 years!  She passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 4, 2024.  Born at home on August 20, 1923 in Edmonston, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Lillian R. Barr.  She spent most of her life living in various parts of Maryland, but also lived in Salisbury, North Carolina for many years.  She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Ronald R. Galentine, Michael S. (Penny) Galentine, Tina M. (Skip) Swann, Carol D. (Glenn) Jones, and many great and great-great nephews and nieces, extended family, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her son, David D. (“Doug”) Bost; brother, Charles A. (“Bud”) Barr, Jr., sisters, Dora E. (“Peggy”) Proffitt, Helen C. (“Cassie”) Galentine, brother-in-law, Clarence R. Galentine, nephew, Richard J. (“Rick”) Galentine, and great-nephew, Richard F. (“Ricky”) Galentine.  “Dottie” or “Sis,” as her friends and relatives knew her, spent most of her career at the U.S. Office of Education in Washington, DC.  She enjoyed painting ceramics, working crossword puzzles, shopping flea markets, listening to classic country music and spending time with her family.  Her final request was that there be no funeral or memorial service.  Cremation services will be provided by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home in LaPlata, MD, and her ashes will be placed later in a location that was very special to her.
