Douglas Clarke Obituary

Douglas Morris Clarke Sr.

Born June 19, 1939, in Washington DC and passed away on Saturday March 30, 2024. He

was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Herbert Clarke, and Geneva Dare Clarke. He

was married in 1960 to his sweetie Nancy Lee Gordon Clarke who preceded him in death in

2020 and his infant grandson Adam Michael Mackenzie in 1993. He is survived by his

brother Patrick Clarke (Delores), sisters in law Teresa Brunson (Billy) and Bobbie Jean

Gordon (Ray, deceased). Doug left behind his children: Kimberly Clarke MacKenzie, James

Douglas Clarke (Jennifer), John Dare Clarke (Trish) and Douglas Morris Clarke Jr (Carla). He

had eleven (11) grandchildren and eleven (11) great grandchildren. And many cousins,

nieces, and nephews.

He served in the US Marine Corps, demonstrating his love for his country. Doug was

actively involved in his community, serving as Post Commander and Chaplin at the

American Legion Post 82 in LaPlata MD. He was also one of the co-founders of the

Veterans Museum in Glasva MD. He worked at the museum giving guided tours to many

visitors.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing horseshoes.

In 1978, Doug started his own business, Clarke Tile Company, which became a family

affair with all his children working for him at various times. He eventually retired from

the Family business, passing it on to his son, Douglas Morris Clarke Jr.

Doug could talk all day. He really enjoyed good conversations, laughter and just being silly.

His biggest pleasure came from providing for his family. His wife Nancy was the love of his

life and through the years they enjoyed going to dances, attending family events and raising

their children together.

Douglas Morris Clarke Sr.'s life story reflects a man who dedicated himself to his family, his

country, and his community, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories for those who knew

him.
