Douglas "Jim" Reese Obituary

Douglas “Jim” Reese, 89 of Bryans Road, MD, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 in Washington, DC.  Jim was born on January 6, 1932 in Jenkins, Kentucky to the late Arthur and Nellie Reece.

On June 16, 1954, Jim married his beloved wife, Shelba Jean “Bobbie” Willis , in Clintwood, VA.  Together they celebrated over 66 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on June 20, 2020.

Jim was a member of Calvary Gospel Church in Waldorf, MD.  He was a gold member of Plasterers and Cement Masons Local 891 for 65 years.

Many who knew Jim, described him as a friendly, humorous man, with a big heart.  With that big heart of his, he loved his family and friends tremendously.  He was a very giving person, and always had a way of bringing smiles to everyone.

Jim loved the simple things in life.  He enjoyed traveling to the beach and mountains with his family, working tirelessly in his garden, as well as perfecting his hobby of woodworks.  His sitting time was often spent in his favorite chair with the westerns on TV.  He was quite the spoiler as he loved to narrate them as they played.  Second to westerns, were Perry Mason, Law and Order, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, which became a daily and nightly routine.  He was quite the card player and enjoyed gathering around the “conference table” for many hours, while enjoying tasty foods, with his family members.  Jim was a die-hard fan of the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers, and loved to poke fun or root against his family members home teams.  He was known for having the perfect peanut butter fudge recipe, and loved making it for family and friends to enjoy.

Jim touched the hearts of all who knew him.  He will truly be missed.

In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Shelba “Bobbie” Reese; brothers, Joseph Reece, Ralph Reece, Eddie Reece, Arthur Reece, Robert Reece and Rex Reece; sisters, Billie Wallace and Thelma Mayewski; son-in-law, Jack Schroth.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Bowie (Randy) and Deborah Schroth; siblings, Alma Hackle (Norm) and Frank Reece; grandchildren, Kristin Simmons (Dave), Jaclyn Dresch (John), Jaime Bowie (Billy), Lynsi Weisman (Jake) and Lauryn Norman (Steve) and 11 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 9AM until service time at 11AM, officiated by Pastor Marvin Harris at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary’s Ave. LaPlata MD 20646).  Interment to follow at the Trinity Memorial Gardens (3221 Mattawoman Beantown RD. Waldorf MD 20601).  Serving as pallbearers will be, Billy Bakir, Tony Clements, John Dresch, Steve Norman, Logan Simmons and Jake Weisman.  Honorary pallbearers will be George Alling and Timmy Reece.
