Edward H. Myer III
November 5, 1943 - October 30, 2023
Edward H. Myer III of Bel Alton, MD passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023 at the age of 79.
Edward (Ed) was born in Patterson, N.J. on Nov. 5, 1943 to the late Dr. Edward H. Myer, Jr. and Kathryn (Ritchie) Myer.
Ed grew up in Mahwah, N.J. and graduated from Mahwah Senior High School in 1961. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Maryland in 1965, where he was president of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He continued his education at Maryland University School of Law in Baltimore, MD, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1968.
As a member of the United States Army JAG Corps, Edward was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia from 1969-1973. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain and moved to La Plata, MD. He joined the law firm of Barbour & Zverina, where he eventually became a partner. At times during his career, he was a member of the MD State Bar Association, Charles County Bar Association, Rotary Club and Lions Club. Ed was a respected general practice attorney and retired after 46 years.
His occupation was a lawyer, but his passion was golf. Ed was proud of his two Club Championships: at Brandywine Golf Club and Wicomico Country Club. His interest in golf took him to a variety of golf courses, including Bermuda where he first learned to play golf during a family vacation. It was during multiple golf outings that he formed many lasting friendships.
Ed had a very competitive spirit. He liked games of all kinds-whether it was a game of pool, a video or arcade game, or a game of Trivia Pursuit. Being a voracious reader, his knowledge of history, sports, politics and current events assisted him in his competitions.
Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Linda Machetto, his sister, Meri-Kathryn Peed (John, Sr.), three nephews: John Peed, Jr. (Audrey), Justin Peed (Heather) and Jordan Park Peed (Eileen). Ed is also survived by cousins, grand nieces and nephews.
