Eleanor Rose Chase, daughter of the late Margaret Collins and Lorenzo Hawkins was born in Bel Alton, Maryland on September 28, 1936. She peacefully departed this life on December 19, 2023.
Eleanor was baptized at St. Ignatius Chapel Point, where she remained a dedicated and faithful member and supported many of the church activities.
She was educated in the Charles County School system. On April 22, 1957, she married the late Joseph Oscar Chase and within this union they were blessed with seven children Eugene, Dorothy, Joseph, George, Deborah, Stephen and Robert.
As members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International, Eleanor enjoyed trips with her daughter Debbie to Canada, Kentucky, New York and Ohio. Eleanor was a domestic worker and valued taking care of her family. She loved cooking for them and making her famous potato salad. Eleanor also loved to line dance and could dance with the best of them and would try to teach her girls the steps. She also enjoyed playing bingo and participating in various activities at the Clark Senior Center in La Plata.
Eleanor’s kindness, patience and loving spirit will sorely be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Oscar Chase; sister Louise Miles and brother Philip Hawkins.
She leaves to cherish her memory children, Eugene, Dorothy (Gordon), Joseph (Cecelia), George (Janice), Deborah, Steven (Debbie), Robert (Amy); grandchildren, Brandon (Toleisha), Kierra, Marquis, Cameron, Steven, Andrew, Christina, Troy, Angela, Antonio, Patrick, Toryann, Denasia and Dwayne; great-grandchildren, Brandon II, Berlin, Zion, Kasen and Kylin; one sister Agnes Dorsey, one brother John Hawkins, sisters-in-law Katherine Johnson, Mary Brunner and Virgie Gant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
