Ellen Simpson Cooksey

Ellen Simpson Cooksey, 86 of La Plata, MD passed away on Wednesday March 17, 2021 in La Plata, MD.

Ellen was born on May 18, 1934 in Wicomico, MD to the late Benjamin and Bernadette Simpson. She is also predeceased by her son Steve Cooksey.

She is survived by her loving husband, Guy Cooksey; son, Bernie Cooksey (Amy); daughters, Pam Newman (Harry), Paula Connick, Cyndi Bilbra (Rick), and daughter-in-law Cathy; brothers, Jimmy Simpson (Eleanor), Bobby Simpson, Eddie Simpson (Helene); sisters, Franny Bowling (Chester), Anne St. Clair (David), Carolyn Simpson, Patsy Finch (David), twelve grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Ellen was a member of the St. Mary’s Newport Church and enjoyed singing, dancing, cooking and playing slots.  She loved having holiday get togethers with her family and took great comfort in having her pets by her side.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday March 23, 2021 at the St. Mary’s Newport Church (11555 St. Mary’s Church Rd. Charlotte Hall, MD 20622) from 9:30 AM until Mass time at 11 AM. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dentsville Volunteer, EMS, Fire and Auxiliary.

Due to COVID 19 all visitors must wear a face covering and maintain social distancing.
