Ethel “Sissy” Cooper 76 of LaPlata, MD passed away on October 26, 2021 in LaPlata, MD.

Sissy was born on March 3, 1945 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Mills and Ella Nelson. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Carol Pappaianni; brothers, Charles Thompson, Joe Nelson, Bill Nelson, Guy Nelson, June Bug Nelson, Harry Nelson, Albert Nelson and Toots Nelson; sister, Margaret Ann Barricklow.

Sissy is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Cooper; sons, Ronald Cooper and Donald Cooper; daughter, Donna Dean; brothers, George Nelson and Franklin Nelson; sisters, Dorothy Nelson, Catherine Turner, Edie Wenk, Agnes Brown, Betty Russell, Anna Mae Lawrence, Mary Harris, Violet Raley and Ginny Copsey; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Sissy retired after years of driving a school bus in Charles County. She loved planting flowers, crafting, crabbing and working in her son-in-laws green house. Sissy was also a devoted caregiver to her daughter Carol.

The family will receive friends on Thursday November 4. 2021 from 4 to 7 PM with prayers at 5 PM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary’s Ave. LaPlata, MD 20646) Mass of Christian Burial will be said 10 AM on Friday November 5, 2021 at the St. Ignatius Hilltop Church (6455 Port Tobacco Rd. Port Tobacco, MD 20677). Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
