Reverend James Isidore Dixon passed away on December 30, 2021 at Sagepoint Senior Living in La Plata, Maryland. He was 90 years old. Father Dixon was born on July 7, 1931 in Washington, D.C. He was ordained on April 5, 1964 in Rome, Italy, as a member of the Washington Province of the Discalced Carmelites of Hubertus, Wisconsin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James E. Dixon and Mary Anna Dixon; brother Joseph Dixon (Anita). He is survived by his brother, Bernard Leo Dixon and his nieces and nephews, Joe Doreen (John), Bell, Suzanne (Tony) Tutwiler, Denise (Russell) Bong.
His first assignment in the Archdiocese of Washington was in 1986, as Parochial Vicar of St. Mary’s Parish, Landover Hills, Maryland. In 1988, Father Dixon was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Washington, and in 1990, was assigned as Parochial Vicar of Saint Joseph Parish, Washington, D.C. In 1991, he was assigned as Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, Washington, D.C., and in 1993 as Pastor of Holy Rosary Parish, Rosaryville, Maryland before retiring in 2007.
Father Dixon was appointed as a Censor Librorum of the Archdiocese of Washington from 1988 until 1993, and from 2014 also served for several years as a chaplain of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, D.C.
A closed casket visitation will take place from 9:30am to 10:30am on January 12, 2022 at Saint Joseph Parish, Pomfret, Maryland followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph, Pomfret, Maryland at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Pomfret, Maryland.
