Garner Hayden Burroughs, Sr.

Garner Hayden Burroughs, Sr., 90, of White Plains, MD passed away on March 1, 2022 at the University Charles Regional Medical Center.

Garner was born in Tompkinsville, MD on November 19, 1931 to the late Rudolph and Maude Burroughs. In addition to his parents, Garner is preceded in death by his son, Robert L. Burroughs; daughter-in-law, Velma Burroughs; brothers, Wilson M. Burroughs, George A. Burroughs and Daniel R. Burroughs; sister, Mary V. Burroughs; and granddaughter, Nicole Lynn.  Garner leaves behind his wife, Alice Burroughs; sons, Garner Burroughs, Jr. and Gordon R. Burroughs (Kitty); sister, Shirley A. Pyles; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Garner worked in construction for B. Frank Joy for 34 years.  He was a member of the Waldorf Moose Lodge and liked to pass time playing the lottery and slot machines.  He also enjoyed crabs, oysters and a cold beer.  Garner will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends on March 8, 2022 from 4PM to 7PM at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, PA (211 St. Mary’s Ave., LaPlata, MD).  A Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church Wayside (13050 Rockpoint Rd., Newburg, MD) on March 9, 2022 at 10 AM.  Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garner’s memory to Christ Church Wayside (PO Box 177, Newburg, MD 20664).
