Georgiana Mae Lewis

Who was Mother Georgiana Lewis?  She was the third of six children and daughter of Fanny & Blanchard Cutno. She was a mother, sister, servant and matriarch. Georgiana was an inspiring soul.  Always willing to serve others who came to her with a need.  Her home was the hub for our entire family and her love and hospitality made everyone feel important.  She didn't have much but we always felt like we had everything.  Her faith and service provided a strong foundation for our family and many others in our community. 

Mother Lewis served for 36 years at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where she served as Unit Secretary & retired as Sr. Phlebotomist!

For more than 40 years Mother Lewis was a faithful and dedicated Charter Member of Cosmopolitan of the Lord Jesus, Bronx, NY, under the pastoral leadership of its founder, Rev. Dr. Robert L. Foley Sr. Mother Lewis was given the title of "Mother" by Pastor Foley upon her consecration to the Senior Mother Stewardess Board. Mother Lewis took her consecration as a Mother of the church very seriously. She evidenced this through her consistently loving, compassionate, giving, and prayerful demeanor and spirit. Mother Lewis mentored and counseled with many of the youth of her church, encouraging them to always love God and make positive life decisions. Mother Lewis was instrumental in the realization of satisfying the church's mortgage payments to the extent that the church's 30 year mortgage was burned in 16 years. It was Mother Lewis' tireless stewardship, and selfless service, that contributed to making the vision of Rev. Foley become a reality as the efforts of this church uplifted all of its members, visitors, and the surrounding community.

Mother Lewis regularly blessed her church, family and community with her culinary arts expertise. Plainly said, she was an excellent cook. During many special annual programs held at her church, which was always followed by dinner, You could always depend on Mother Lewis to work her culinary magic in the kitchen.

She even walked arm & arm with community leaders for positive change such as Bronx Assemblyman, Community board members, and even the Rev. Al Sharpton.

We were blessed with the opportunity to move Mother Lewis to Maryland to live her final 5 years of life surrounded by her beautiful family, including her son Rosheim Sr,  daughter-in-law, Maria, Grandsons- Ryan, Rosheim II, and Jalen; Grandchildren Kianna, Khalil, Khalea, Karter, and King; Son-in-Love, Dan and his children Cianna, Dan Jr. and Arcana.  We truly took seriously the scripture of Ephesians 6:2-3,  “Honor your father, and your mother is the first command with a promise that it may go well with you, and you remain a long time on the earth!”

She was a true Matriarch among her siblings: Ethel, Blanchard Jr, Joe, Earl, and Lionel as well as her long-time Sister-in-laws and love, Ida and Janice.

She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by her “Nieces”, Sandra, Trena, Arlette, Phyllis, Carol, Kimberly, Cynthia & “Nephews”, Jamie, Roshad, Kyle and Naeem.

We pray God is well pleased with our effort to honor His command and our Mother!  The life, influence, and legacy of Mother Georgiana Lewis continues to resonate, and always will.
