Guy Leroy Cooksey

Guy Leroy Cooksey, Jr. of Dentsville Maryland passed away on Saturday October 28, 2023, at the age of 90 surrounded by family.

Guy was born on June 21, 1933, to the late Guy Leroy Cooksey and Catherine Thompson Cooksey. He is also predeceased by his wife, Ellen Simpson Cooksey and his son, Steven Lynwood Cooksey.

He is survived by his son, Bernie Cooksey (Amy); daughters, Pam Newman and Paula Connick, Cyndi Bilbra (Rick); sister, Joan Mitchell, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

As a young adult he was a very talented musician who played in several bands. He accomplished many string instruments.

Guy lived in St. Mary’s County prior to living in Charles County where he started his own business, Southern Maryland Lime Service.  After retiring from the lime business, he became a heavy equipment operator. In his later years he had a love for woodworking and cutting grass. 

The family will receive friends on November 6, 2023, from 10 am until Mass time at 11 AM at the St. Mary’s Newport Church (11555 St. Mary’s Church Rd. Charlotte Hall, MD 20622).  Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dentsville Volunteer EMS, Fire, & Auxiliary or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
