Helen Scott

Helen Scott (nee Therres) passed away peacefully on July 26, 2021. Born on August 22, 1930 in Waldorf, MD she was the beloved daughter to the late Joseph and Catherine Therres (nee Koller).

Helen married the love of her life, James W. (Wally) Scott in 1950.  They shared many wonderful years together before his passing in 1993.  She then moved to Pennsylvania to be near her children and grandchildren.  Helen was the devoted mother to Patricia Kairunas (the late Edward), Phyllis Giaimo (John), the late Jean Patterson (Gary), and Lynn Sommar (Joe), dear grandmother to Scott, Stephanie, Michael, Johnny, Mary and Steven.  She is predeceased by her sisters Margaret Welch, Anna Stonestreet, Mary Ellen Carroll, and her brothers Lawrence Therres, Bernard Therres, Paul Therres, Edward Therres and Robert Therres.

Helen was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in LaPlata, MD for many years.  After her move to Pennsylvania, she joined St. Titus Parish in Norristown, PA where she was a member of the Ladies’ Sodality and senior citizens’ group.  She was a lifetime member of the Charles County Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 82 Ladies Auxiliary.  In her free time she loved to bake, sew and do volunteer work.  Helen was kindhearted and humble throughout her life and she will be missed deeply by those who loved her.

A viewing for Helen will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 9:00 to 9:50 am at Sacred Heart Church 201 St. Mary’s Ave., La Plata, MD. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Heart Cemetery.
