Jean Simms Cooksey 92 of Swan Point, MD passed away on December 22, 2022 in Fredericksburg, VA.
Jean was born on July 18, 1930 in Bel Alton, MD to the late John and Florence Simms. She is also predeceased by her husband, Edward; brothers, John Simms and Charles Simms; sister, Mary Margaret Simms.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Susan Barnhill (Roy); son, Edward "Butch" Cooksey, Jr (Darlene); grandchildren, Emily Barnhill, Annie Barnhill, Amanda Crooks, Jacob Comer and Sarah Payne. She is also survived by several Great Grandchildren.
Jean was a retired Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years of service. She graduated as Salutatorian from LaPlata High School in 1947. She is an Alumnus of the Western Maryland College now McDaniel College where she was a member of the Sigma Tau Sigma Sorority and a member of the Holy Ghost Church where she was an active member of the Ladies of Charity and volunteered at area nursing homes.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday January 3, 2023 from 9:30 AM until Mass time at 11 AM at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church (15848 Rock Point Rd. Newburg, MD 20664).
Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.
