Joseph Thompson, Sr., 100 of Newburg, MD passed away on Monday February 13, 2023 at his home.
Joseph was born on July 14, 1922 in Newburg, MD to the late Clarence and Dollie Thompson. He is also predeceased by his wife, Mary; Sons, James Hood; Joseph Thompson Jr, daughter Judith K. Jones, grandson Jason Boarman, brothers, Clarence, Wilmer and Leonard; sisters, Lillian, Ruth, Alma, Dollie, Ethel, Ruby, Alice and Inez.
He is survived by his son; David Thompson (April); daughter, Vicky Boarman- Phillips and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
Joseph proudly served in the United States Navy. He then went on to work for the Federal Government in Dahlgren, VA. As a Weapons Foreman retiring after 35 years. Joseph had a love for the water. Working as a commercial fisherman part time most of his life then full time after retirement. He was known around the Potomac as “The Fishman” In addition he had great skill working with his hands being known to be able to build anything as well as fix anything. In his later years, he built custom cigar box guitars with his son David.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday February 22, 2023 from 4 to 7 PM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary’s Ave. LaPlata, MD 20646). His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday February 23, 2023 11 AM at the Holy Ghost Church (15848 Rock Point Rd. Newburg, MD 20664). Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.
