Joseph "Dinky" Wilbur Cooper

Joseph “Dinky” Cooper 83 of LaPlata, MD passed away on Wednesday April 10, 2024 in Waldorf, MD. Dinky was born on January 11, 1941 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Robert and Catherine Cooper, he is also predeceased by his wife, Ethel “Sissy” Cooper; daughter, Carol Pappaianni; brothers, Robert Cooper and Larry Cooper; sister Debbie Joy.

He is survived by his sons, Ronnie Cooper and Donnie Cooper; daughter, Donna Dean; sisters, Cyndi Wood (David) and Sandy Hoflich (Mike); grandchildren, Ashley Quade, Abby Cooper, Casey Rhinefield, Lindsay Oneyear, DJ Cooper, Tommy Cooper, Robert Dean, Kristen Dean, Daniel Arnold, Jessica Arnold, Katie Stewart. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.

Dinky proudly served in the United States Army. He then worked at the Naval Base in Indian Head making nitroglycerin. He also donated to his church regularly and made yearly donations to the Veterans of 9/11. Dinky was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a member of the Gallon Club for the American Red Cross. Dinky enjoyed crabbing with his family and friends, drinking bud light and working in the garden. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 24, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM with prayers at 4:30pm at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary’s Ave. LaPlata, MD 20646). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday April 25, 2024 at 10 AM at the St. Ignatius – Hilltop Church (6455 Port Tobacco Rd. LaPlata, MD 206460). Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.
