Kenneth Raymond Hurtt
May 31, 1940 - July 1, 2022
Kenneth (Kenny) Raymond Hurtt, 82, of Cobb Island, MD, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2022, at his home. Kenny was born on May 31, 1940, in Washington, D.C. to the late Francis Hurtt and Jeanette Tillotson Hurtt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard, Harold and Geraldine Hurtt Smith. He was also predeceased by his nephews, Leslie Hurtt, Brian Smith, Gary Smith and Stephen Smith.
Kenny enjoyed many outings with family and friends on the Potomac and especially fishing excursions with his work buddies on the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed home improvement projects and sharing his culinary skills. We all looked forward to his specialties, such as his fried oysters, steamed crabs, shrimp creole and holiday dinners.
Although Kenny retired as a Mechanic, member of Local 24, Washington, D.C., there wasn’t anything he could not fix. It did not matter whether it was a plumbing or electrical problem, car problem, or even a wallpaper hanging problem. Call Kenny, and he always knew what needed to be done and how to fix it. He took pride in his work and the finished product looked like it was professionally done.
Kenny is survived by his daughters, Janice Hurtt Deller of Garner, NC and Joyce Hurtt Garza (Fred Garza III) of Hughesville, MD; granddaughters Rachel Deller of New York, NY, Valerie Garza of Hughesville, MD and Monica Garza of Lyndhurst, NJ; nieces Denise Smith McGinnis (Kevin) of Millersville, MD and Courtney Hurtt Franchio of Orlando, FL and their children.
Kenny was also the devoted companion of Laura V. Mattingly of Cobb Island, MD, who survives him and deeply mourns his passing.
“Here’s to the good men in the world who make a difference in the lives of the people they care about.” Thank you, Kenny, for being one of them.
The family will receive friends on Friday July 8, 2022 from 3 to 6 PM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary's Ave. LaPlata, MD 20646) with a Memorial Service at 5 PM. Interment will be at a later date.
