Kennith Allen Stelzer passed away peacefully Saturday April 22nd, 2023. Born November 26th, 1929 to Cora (Clark) and Frank Stelzer - he is survived by his children; Catherine Khaledi (Kouroush), Debra Miller, and David Stelzer (Nell). Grandchildren; Jason, Kayvon, and Reyna, Great grandchildren; Cory, Jadyn, Kaylee, Kendall, Brylee, Riley, Liam and Cody. Predeceased by one grandchild, Justin Miller and loving wife Shirley - they had been married for 57 years.
Kennith lived a full and wonderful life. He enlisted in the Army Corp in 1947 and then began in the newly formed US Air Force - in communications. He met the love of his life - Shirley while being stationed in England. They moved often - Georgia, New Mexico, Portugal, Nebraska, England and then back to United States - he remained in the US Air Force until 1970 when he retired. Not one to stay still - he then worked for US Navy as computer programmer and moved to Waldorf, MD in 1972- where he lived until his passing.
He will be dearly missed - his love for family and friends, his intelligence, his humor, compassion for helping anyone when needed, his enjoyment of volunteering at the Senior Center on Thursday mornings bingo, and still retaining what he called “a good old farm boy” roots. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing golf (where ever his jobs took him), and then after Shirley’s passing - he learned wood working - calling himself the “Scroll Sawyer”. His many carvings were made by hand and many have enjoyed his work. The chess board and game pieces being his first to carve and many wanting them. He worked on many types of carvings including beautiful scrolled crosses, military emblems and when asked to carve a particular thing - he accepted the challenge and succeeded in doing the carving.
The family will receive friends on Saturday April 29, 2023 from 11 Am to Service time at 1 pm at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary’s Ave. LaPlata, MD 20646). Interment will be held at a later date at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery (11301 Crain Highway Cheltenham, MD 20623).
