Louis Schneider

LTC Louis Schneider, US Army Retired, passed away at age 99 peacefully in his sleep early Friday morning, January 23, 2026, in Knoxville, TN. LTC Schneider served 28 years in the United States Army as a nurse on multiple bases in various hospitals in the United States, Germany, and Thailand. Louis understood his calling from God was to continue Jesus' ministry of healing through nursing. During his military career, he also assisted Army chaplains with pulpit supply. Upon retirement from the Army, LTC Schneider was an instructor in the LPN program at the Greene County Vocational-Technical School in Waynesburg, PA. He was also an ordained Baptist minister and enjoyed providing pulpit supply and hospital chaplaincy until he was 90 years old. Louis was a churchman who loved church music. He taught himself to play the organ and accordion so he could have church music whenever he wanted.

Louis enjoyed decorating for the holidays—especially Christmas. He also enjoyed rail travel and miniature railroading. A member of the Maryland Patriot Guard, Louis honored many fellow veterans by attending and participating in their funerals.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Hazel Schneider, and his brother, Paul Schneider. He married the former Gloria Bainbridge from Uniontown, PA. They were married for 69 years and have three sons: Samuel (Tina), William (Donna), and Gary (Debora). LTC Schneider has eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of La Plata in La Plata, MD, on Saturday February 28, 2026 from 12:30 PM until service time at 1:30 PM with LTC Schneider's son, Rev. Dr. Gary Schneider, officiating.   LTC Schneider will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery when cemetery scheduling permits. Louis will be greatly missed.
