Mary B. Cole

Mary Beatrice Cole, affectionately known as "Bee," of La Plata, MD, gained her wings on January 9, 2025, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD. Born on March 10, 1931, in Dentsville, MD, Bee was the cherished daughter of the late Frances and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Thomas.

Bee was educated in the Charles County public school system. After completing her education, she worked as a housekeeper, providing cleaning services in private homes throughout the county. Bee later transitioned to the medical field, where she served as a dedicated employee at the former Charles County Nursing Home and the former La Plata Hospital, both in La Plata, MD, until her well-deserved retirement.

Bee found immense joy in spending time with her family, friends, and especially her beloved grandchildren. She had a passion for cooking and was well-known for her famous potato salad, a staple at Sunday dinners. Bee also enjoyed playing cards, solving word search puzzles, and collecting stylish pocketbooks.

Bee was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Lizzy Thomas; her husband, Joseph Wade Cole Sr.; her children, Clinton Thomas, Hazel Thomas, Judy Cole-Shade, and Vernon Cole; her grandchildren, Ebony Love and Anthony Reed; and her siblings, Agnes Chisley, Edward Thomas, Wilma Thomas, DeSales Thomas, Della Plater, and Clara Brown.

Bee leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted children: Angeline Proctor, Bridgette Reynolds (Charles), Joseph Cole Jr. (Melissa), Robin Alexander (Yul), Jay Cole, and Tracy Young (Thomas). She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great- grandchildren, extended family, and friends who will continue to celebrate her remarkable life.

Bee’s warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
