Mary Katherine Albrittain Obituary

Mary Katherine (Wills) Albrittain passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 in Faulkner, MD, at the age of 93. She was a lifelong resident of Charles County.  Mary K was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Wright and Anna Ellsworth (Swann) Wills, husband William Albrittain and Sister Hanna White. She is survived by her sister Frances Williams and brother Harold Wills, children William Miles Albrittain Jr. (Chanda), grand children William Miles Albrittain III (Chrissie) along with great-grand children Calla and Cora Albrittain, Victoria Mary Jean Bowie (Jeff), along with great- grand children Tru Glotfelty and Mia Bowie, Emma Carlyn Turner (Zachary)  with great-grandsons Barrett and Jackson Turner, and Chloe Lawson,  daughter Marianna Elizabeth Albrittain (John) along with granddaughter Kelly Palmer (Brad) and great grandson Weston Pearce Palmer and Garrett Edward Palmer, son James Willis Albrittain (Patricia), and granddaughters Lauren Elaine Albrittain, Anna Kristine Albrittain and grandson Alexander James Albrittain, daughter Kathryn Miriam White (Rick), and youngest son, Harold Thomas Albrittain (Deidre), and grandson Eric William Harris(Lauren) with kids Preston, Miles, Cathleen, and Gabriel, and granddaughters Katelyn Nichole Stonehouse (Joseph) with great-granddaughter Scarlett Magnolia Stonehouse, Ciara Brooke Albrittain, and Brianna Elizabeth Albrittain.

Mary K was born on June 2, 1929 in Leonardtown, Maryland. Mary K was a devout Catholic and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1947.  She went to college in Georgia and Western Maryland. She graduated from college with a degree in Home Economics and Science. Additionally, she got her Master’s Degree in Education (Counseling) from George Washington University during her life’s journey. On October 13, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, William M Albrittain at St. Ignatius-Chapel Point Catholic Church. She worked 30 years in Education starting at Glasva, Milton Somers, and Bel Alton Middle Schools as a teacher and counselor. Then moving to be the Director of Charles County Counselors and finishing her last 17 years as the Director of Pupil Services for the State of Maryland in Baltimore. She was the epitome of a role model and the pillar of the Albrittain family.  She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, Maw maw, and longtime member of St. Ignatius-Chapel Point Catholic Church. 

 She was a Life member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Board of Director member for Civista Hospital from 1991-1995, Historical Society of Charles County Board member, Officer for the National Association of Retired Federal Workers local chapter, President of Maryland Association for Counselor, Education and Supervision from 1981 -1982 and President of Southern Association for Counselor, Education and Supervision from 1986- 1987 and received counselor of the year in 1986 from the Maryland Counselor’s Association .  She was a member of the Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Axillary from 2000 to 2017 working functions and supported them as long as she was able too.

  She enjoyed spending time with her family, being an avid church goer, loving and spoiling her grandchildren as well as watching the Nationals baseball team and Washington “Redskins” football team. She enjoyed sewing and making quits for all her family members.

The family will be receiving friends for the viewing on January 12, 2023 from 2 pm to 5pm at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, ( 211 St. Mary’s Ave, La Plata MD ) and on January 13, 2023 a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ignatius-Chapel Point Church ( 855 Chapel point Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677) beginning at 11am.
