Neil (Buddy) Nutwell, 79, of Pomfret, MD, died peacefully on August 1, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cherie Nutwell (nee Martin), sons Gary (Jean) and Chad, grandson Matthew, granddaughter Elizabeth, and sister Patricia Barber. Born in Newburg, MD and raised in Wayside, MD, from the age of 6, he was the son of Spencer J. and Thelma Nutwell (nee Goldsmith). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Barbara Howell, Jane Bond, and Joan Nieves, and his brother Edward.
Buddy’s work ethic was matched by few. Nutwell Plumbing and Heating, Inc., founded by Buddy in 1972, was a thriving business for over 45 years due to Buddy’s hard work and dedication to both his employees and his customers. Buddy always stayed on the move whether he was working, golfing, traveling, speeding on his boat, or cruising in one of his collectable sports cars. Even in recent years, Buddy loved to move on the dance floor. He may have been caught sitting still if he was picking crabs, playing cards, or napping. Buddy had a great sense of humor and loved having fun, especially with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his jovial, beloved and hard-working spirt.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 9, from 12 to 3 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata, MD. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to The Humane Society of Charles County in Waldorf, MD.
