Peggy Dixon of Welcome, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024 in Homestead, Florida. She was 93 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Kenneth Dixon who passed in December 2021.
Peggy is survived by her children, Andy Dixon, Gail Manuel, and Bill Dixon, her 4 four grandchildren; Corie Thomas, Alex Dixon, Tyler and Todd Manuel, and four great grand- children.
Peggy was born December 1st, 1930 in Williamson, West Virginia. At the age of 12, she and her family relocated to Washington, D.C where her father took a position with the U.S. Post Office. She attended McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C. and there she met the love of her life Kenneth Dixon. They were married March 25, 1950.
In 1960 Ken was presented with an opportunity to become a Chevrolet dealer in a then, small rural town, called Waldorf, Maryland. Having just moved into her “dream house” the family packed up and moved again, living right next to the dealership lot for 16 years.
Eventually they relocated to a waterfront farm in Welcome, Maryland. Since Ken was an avid pilot and could land a plane at the farm, Peggy named it "Lanseair" meaning one could get there by land, sea or air. Later they became residents of Key Largo, Florida but retained their property in Welcome.
Peggy was truly the matriarch of her family. She was passionate, supportive of them, proud of their accomplishments, and relished the time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a member of the La Plata United Methodist Church and the Charles County Garden Club.
A Celebration of her life will take place Friday March 22 at the La Plata United Methodist Church. A viewing will be held at the Church from 10 am to 11:00 am, immediately followed by a Service of Remembrance. Friends may gather in the church hall following the Service. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, the Charles County Humane Society or the local chapter of the USO, her favorite charities will accept gifts in Peggy's name.
