Philip Belknap, Jr

Philip A. Belknap, Jr. (Butch), of St. Leonard, MD passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 63.

Butch was born on March 13, 1962, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to Philip Belknap, Sr. and Sandra Blaine Belknap.  He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his son-in-law (Joshua Vinson) and grandson (Hunter Vinson).

He graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1980 where he was actively involved in music and theatre.  During high school, he performed in various musicals, such as South Pacific and The Fantastics.  He had fond memories of his musical theater days and made lifelong friends.  After graduating high school, he was one of two representatives selected from Maryland to travel with a national choir that performed across Europe during the summer of 1980.

Upon returning from his European travels, he served our country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington State and served overseas in Germany.  He was proud to serve his country and widened his circle of lifelong friends.  Upon leaving the Army, he worked with various companies who held government contracts providing computer technical support.

Butch was an avid bowler and treasured the many bowling tournament adventures with family and lifelong friends.  He was a diehard Baltimore Orioles, Washington Capitals, and Washington Redskins fan.  He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and neighbors whether it was watching a game, cooking out or just shooting the breeze.  Butch actively cultivated his lifelong relationships with family and friends, and was always ready to step up and assist when needed.  He enjoyed the comradery and never met a stranger.  He especially valued his daily jests with his cousin Cal.  Butch was proud of his family and let everyone know it.

He is survived by his three sisters Kim, Janette and Cathy; his daughter Holly; grandchildren (Allen and Ryelynn); his nieces and nephews (Kristen, Christopher, Morgan and Erik); great niece and nephew (Damian and Irie); and numerous other extended family members.

Interment will take place at Cheltenham Veteran’s Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at Trinity Episcopal Church Hall located at 9611 Trinity Church Road, Charlotte Hall, MD from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Come share your stories of Butch with family and friends as we celebrate his life.
