Robert Duane Weimert, Sr., age 88, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2026. He was born on March 7, 1938, in Saxton, Pennsylvania. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years before moving to Southern Maryland, where he began work at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head. Robert built a life defined by hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship as a self-employed carpenter and home improvement contractor for nearly 40 years.
On September 30, 1961, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Jean Kifer. Together, they built a loving family and enjoyed nearly 65 years of marriage. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; their children, Robert Weimert, Jr. (Cathy), Cherie Weimert-Kidwell, Cami Canlas (John), Lori Spears (Derrick), Kristy Walton (Chris), Valerie Erwin, and Brian Weimert (Shannon); his siblings, Daniel Weimert, Ronald Weimert (Debbie), and Andrea Husick (Joseph); 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Francis and Emma Belle Weimert, and two beloved grandchildren, Jamie Weimert and Rileigh Canlas.
Robert will be remembered for the family he created with his wife and for the homes he built throughout the community. He made a lasting impact on all who knew him. In his free time, he enjoyed being with his family—especially his grandchildren—and loved traveling, listening to music while watching birds, and working on projects around his home.
A viewing will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1200 Charles Street, La Plata, Maryland, at 9:30 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Arehart-Echols Funeral Home in La Plata, Maryland. Interment will be held privately at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Pallbearers are Cliffton Weimert, Joshua Weimert, Christopher Walton, Brady Weimert, Nathan Erwin, and Dyllan Weimert.
