Stephen Brandt Obituary

Stephen (Steve) Hebb Brandt, 76, passed away on January 14th, 2022 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Steve was born in Washington D.C. on January 9th, 1946; the son of George Fred Elsworth Brandt and Elma Hebb Brandt. He grew up in Bethesda, Maryland where he attended Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. He went on to a short stint at West Point and then Gettysburg College where he played fullback on the Lambert Cup winning football team and was named honorable mention All-American. After college, he served in the Army as commissary officer at the NATO/SHAPE headquarters in Belgium. He took over his family business and ran Brandt and Chopp Lumber Company until 1984. After selling his part in that company he started Brandt Construction Company, building custom single family homes until his retirement in 2005.

After retiring Steve spent time traveling with his wife, Sally Brandt. Together they travelled extensively in Europe and South America and made trips to Israel, Egypt, the Galapagos, and Iceland as well. He also enjoyed playing golf and was an avid gardener, regularly donating his harvest to the Lifestyles food pantry in La Plata.

Steve is survived by his wife, Sally Harrison Brandt; his brother George Brandt of Sonoma, California; sister Judy Lichaa of Cape Coral, Florida; son Casey Brandt;  daughters Jessica Tompkins and Becky Pearson and sons-in-law John Tompkins and Sean Pearson; and grandchildren Dylan Tompkins, Ryann Tompkins, Alexis Rupard, Kilian Rupard, Quinn Brandt, and Margot Pearson.
