Susan Linda Lewis, 69, of Bel Alton, Maryland, passed away surrounded by family on January 11, 2023 in LaPlata, Maryland.
Susan was born on September 1, 1953 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to the late Donald P. and Margaret M. Murray (Feist).
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Gary Lewis Sr., son, Gary Lewis, Jr., sisters Sharon Payne-Ashby (Fred Ashby) of West End, North Carolina and Kim Murray (Frank Thompson) of Charlotte Hall, Maryland, brother-in-law (AJ Lewis) and sister-in-law (Linda Lewis). She is also survived by Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Susan worked for Peoples Life Insurance, Chesapeake Homes and later at Judy’s Hallmark in LaPlata. Susan had a kind heart and frequently became friends with Hallmark gift shop patrons while employed there. She was a genuinely sweet person.
Susan attended grade school at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea and graduated from Lackey High School in 1972.
Susan loved traveling to Pennsylvania to visit with family. For most of her life, she visited at least once a year. Susan never missed touching base with her Mom and Dad, sisters, and Aunts and Uncles on every major holiday. They were her phone days and she was always only a call away.
She would always coordinate luncheons with her two sisters on a regular basis; crab cakes were one of her favorite dishes. Susan was also an excellent baker and loved to cook. Everyone she knew looked forward to tasting her homemade zucchini bread whenever she made it.
She kept in touch with childhood friends throughout the years and cherished those friendships. Susan enjoyed watching old black and white movies, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s sitcoms and working crossword puzzles. She was an avid collector of ‘I Love Lucy’ memorabilia.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 10 am until her service at 12 noon at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St Mary’s Avenue, LaPlata, Maryland 20646.
