Ted Leslie Gearhart Jr 91 of LaPlata, MD passed away on Monday November 29, 2021.
Ted was born on August 20, 1930 in Ashland, KY to the late Ted and Loretta Gearhart He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Gearhart Pinto; his sisters, Eleanor Kersey of Ashland KY, Ann Catt of Lexington, KY and her husband Joe; his niece and nephew, Donna Kersey, and Barry Mitchell; great nieces and nephews, Daniella, David, Elsie, and Bo. All of whom were devoted to him.
Ted graduated from Catlettsburg High School where he lettered in both football and basketball. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Wisconsin. He attended the University of Kentucky on the G. I. Bill. After earning his degree he moved to Washington D.C. to start his career as an oceanographer at the Defense Mapping Agency. Where he worked until retirement.
Ted loved to travel; through work and for pleasure, he has seen most of the world.
He was the Patriarch of his family and was beloved by both family and friends. He was a longtime fan of the Redskins and UK Wildcats College Basketball. He had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed!
Due to COVID there will a small private burial and a Celebration of Life planned for later in the year.
