Obituary

 

Thomas “Andy” Pilkerton, age 74, of Cobb Island, MD, passed away on February 16, 2022. Andy was born in La Plata, MD to the late Joseph Allen Pilkerton and Mary Esther Grissett Pilkerton on February 6, 1948. Andy is predeceased by his brothers Richard Lee Pilkerton; Joseph Allen Pilkerton (Brenda); James Richard Pilkerton and his sister Catherine Linda Pilkerton. Andy is survived by his brothers William Gail Pilkerton (Sherry) and John Larry Pilkerton (Cindy); numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend and cousin Iris Naomi Brittle. Andy will be lovingly remembered by relatives and friends.

Andy’s career was multifaceted. His career began at Southern Maryland Oil, Noland Company, and the R.E. Michel Company where, at the time of his passing, he was Branch Manager in Waldorf, MD.

Andy was a great steward of the community. He served for over 33 years with the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department. He held many elected positions, serving a total of 18 years as the President and then EMS Rescue Captain. Continuing his dedication to the fire service, he held positions in the Charles County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association as Past President of both. He also served as Chairman of the Charles County Board of Fire and Rescue.

Andy was a life-long member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and a man of great faith. He served in various volunteer positions such as Director of Religious Education; CCD teacher; Church Lector; Parish Council member and Chairman of the Finance Council.

Andy was a charter member of the Holy Ghost Church, Knights of Columbus #11484 where he served as Grand Knight and Financial Secretary. He then moved up to serve on the Maryland State Council of the Knights of Columbus as a District Deputy and a District Warden.

Andy enjoyed his family and was extremely dedicated to his mother whom he lovingly took care of until her passing. He enjoyed traveling, vacationing near the ocean side, visiting the casino with his brother and spending time with his constant companions, his beloved cats Jingle and Bell. They brought him an abundance of joy and unconditional love.

Friends and family may pay their respects at Holy Ghost Church, 15848 Rock Point Road, Newburg, MD 20664 on February 25, 2022, with visitation from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. followed by a prayer by the Knights of Columbus; Fireman’s Prayers; and Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at the church cemetery.  Funeral repass luncheon will be held at the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department, 17069 Cobb Island Road.
