Virginia Trudell “Trudy” Monroe, 90 of Concord, NC formally of LaPlata, MD passed away
peacefully on Wednesday May 29, 2024.
Trudy was born on June 30, 1933 in Hilltop, MD to the late Frank and Pearl Gilroy. She is also
predeceased by her sister Mignone “Millie” Walter; brother-in-Laws John Walter and Howard
Wheeler.
Trudy is survived by her daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Reed (Ted) and Pamela Bailey (Collins);
stepson, Elbert Monroe (Gwen); sisters, Pearl “Faye” Wheeler and Sandra Linville (Terry);
grandchildren, Haley Reed, Hannah Reed, Joshua Bailey (Elizabeth), Caleb Bailey, John Bailey
(Christine), Mary Allen (Jimmy) and Jennifer Monroe; great grandchildren, Hunter Bailey, Theo
Bailey and Elijah Bailey. She is also survived by 8 Nieces and Nephews and 12 Great Nieces and
Nephews.
Trudy worked for Barnes Chevrolet in the accounting department for several years.
Trudy retired after 25 years from the Circuit Court for Charles County as the Criminal Supervisor.
She enjoyed reading her bible, singing in the church choir, performing in the Church Dinner Theater
Performances (1st Baptist Church of St Charles), and bowling on a league team. In her relaxing time,
she would do word find puzzles. She also liked to play BINGO. She loved to crochet and made
several full-size Afghans, but her favorite thing to crochet was baby Afghans. She made over 50
baby Afghans in her lifetime.
Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends, hosting family gatherings and
Christmas Dinners. She attended most every sporting event, band & choir performance and
motorcross event that her grandchildren were involved in. She thoroughly enjoyed spoiling her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday June 15, 2024 from 9:30 am until her service time at
10:30 at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home (211 St. Mary’s Ave. LaPlata, MD 20646). Interment to
follow at the Nanjemoy Baptist Church Cemetery (3030 Baptist Church Rd. Nanjemoy, MD 20662).
