Warren "Roy" Parker Obituary

Warren “Roy” Leroy Parker Junior was born May 7, 1932 in Cheswick, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh to Warren Leroy Parker senior and Esther Charlene (Hazlet) Parker. He was the oldest of three children, including Sylvia Jean (Parker) Schubert and Charles Eugene Parker. He graduated from West Deer High School in 1950. He spent one year at University of Pittsburgh majoring in Engineering before being drafted into the Army. He completed his engineering degree at University of Maryland while in the Army where he served in the Explosives Ordnance Disposal division.  He was a 20 year Army veteran who served in Pakistan, Germany and Thailand, finally retiring as a Lt. Colonel.  After retiring from the Army, he worked at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in the Washington D.C. office, investigating and serving as a government expert witness in many court cases involving explosives. After retiring from the ATF, he continued to teach about explosives to military and ATF personnel. He also served as a consultant for many years, well into his mid-eighties, fielding questions from ATF and others who valued his experience and knowledge.

He married Martha Raye (Canary) Parker on January 19, 1957 In Kentucky. They had one daughter, Debra Lynn (Parker) Feeney on February 2, 1958. In March 1958, Martha suddenly died and Roy was left a widower with a newborn at the age of 25. He lived with his sister, Sylvia, her husband Bill Schubert and their daughter Gloria in West Deer Township for 2 years.

He met and married Mayda (Poyrozoglu) Olson in 1967 and adopted her two children, Clayton Kenneth and Laura Mayda. He had a daughter with Mayda, Deanna Marie (Parker) McWilliams, in 1968. Roy and Mayda divorced in 1981.

He married Lois (Stine) Parker in 1988. Lois had three children from a previous marriage, Lydia (Jackson) Nichols, Jay Jackson and Richard Jackson, and he loved them as his own.

“Granddaddy” loved playing with the children, taking them fishing, teaching them sports, helping them with school work, teaching home repairs, how yard work was completed and auto maintenance in a “hands on” way. Ensuring all along the way they were learning important life lessons. They often had a job to do before the promised fishing trip teaching them a valuable lesson in how hard work pays off. He loved fishing and cooking seafood dinners that were better than anything restaurants could serve. He went to every grandchild’s sporting event that he could attend for as long as he could attend. Recently, he had to attend with video clips or live streamed events, but he never stopped caring about how they were doing, He repeatedly asked about the wrestling matches that took place while he was in ICU, just days before his death.

He loved many people, but he wasn’t the type to talk about it. He preferred to show his love by his many actions and how he treated people.  He is loved by many and will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother Esther, father Roy Sr., sister Sylvia, brother Chuck, first wife Martha and son Clayton. He is survived by his wife Lois Parker, children Debra (Don) Feeney, daughter-in-law Sandy Parker, Laura (Bob) Hudson-Palmer, Deanna McWilliams, Lydia (Larry) Nichols, Jay (Rachel) Jackson and Richard (Katie) Jackson, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
