William Lawrence “General” Crouse, 73, of Nanjemoy, Maryland, passed peacefully on June 28th surrounded by family.
General enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. After retirement, he found joy in mowing his lawn, gardening, supervising at Pop’s Garage & Auto Body, spending time with his family and dogs, and watching wrestling.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Crouse Sr.; his mother, Alice Crouse; and his brothers, Clarence Bowie and Andrew Bowie.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Crouse; his brother, Walter Crouse (Sylvia); his daughter, Lisa Stringer (Daryl); his son, William Crouse III; his daughter, Tiffany Gilroy (Justin); and his bonus daughter, Connie Bowie.
General was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Courtney Crouse, Ryleigh Stringer, Caleigh Crouse, Brianna Gilroy, William Crouse IV, and Wyatt Gilroy. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Lylah Chase and Antoine Chase III.
General will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love of family, and the many lives he touched throughout the years. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be William Crouse III, Justin Gilroy, Ben Bowie, Chuck Bowie, Michael Crouse, and Mike Thir. Honorary pallbearers will be William Crouse IV and Wyatt Gilroy.
Visitation will be held on Monday July 6, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, (211 St. Mary’s Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646).
A service celebrating General’s life will be held at Maryland Point Baptist Church, (11790 Maryland Point Road, Nanjemoy, Maryland 20662), on Tuesday July 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Nanjemoy Baptist Church Cemetery.
A repast will immediately follow the burial at the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department, 4260 Port Tobacco Road, Nanjemoy, Maryland 20662, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate General’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in General’s memory to Hospice of the Chesapeake (2505 Davis Rd. Waldorf, MD 20603).
